HAMILTON - Mary Nutreen "Nute" Gilliland, 85, died Friday, Dec. 22nd at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born August 22, 1932 to Fred David Vinson and Laura Elizabeth Nelson Vinson in Halltown, Alabama. She lived most of her life in Hamilton, Mississippi.

She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and worked as bookkeeper.  She was a member of the Aberdeen Church of Christ. 

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 29, 2017 at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. James Towery, Bro. Ken Burleson, and Bro. Scott Webster officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Halltown Cemetery in Red Bay, Alabama.

Survivors include one daughter, Sara Christopher of Hamilton; one son, Stanley (Sheila) ; two granddaughters, Lenora Christopher of Columbia, South Carolina and Katyln Christopher of West Point.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Russel Gilliland; one son, Vince Gilliland; one grandchild, Russel Christopher; two brothers, Gene Vinson, and Nelson Vinson. 

Pallbearers are Bobby Nelson, Roger Nelson, Johnnie Weatherford, Danny Welch, Wayne Davis, Sterling Coleman, Marvin Cowart, Danny Holloway, Tim Carter, Ricky Vinson, Mark Gilliland. 

Honorary pallbearers are Billy Scruggs, Ken Riley, James Whitehead, William Vinson, Hughes Vinson. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p. m, Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen. 

Memorials may be made to Pine Vale Children’s Home at 1872 County Road 700, Corinth, MS 38834.

Miss Vinson taught me for two years in High School at Hamilton, MS.  She came from a fine family and was an excellent teacher. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.  May she rest in eternal peace.
